The Charity Award is presented to honor outstanding charity organizations that have made remarkable contributions in the fields of service and support, infrastructure development, and the enhancement of the philanthropy ecosystem.

This year, the Organization of Hajj, Endowments, and Charity Affairs, in coordination with all governmental and regulatory bodies responsible for issuing licenses and overseeing charitable institutions (including the Ministry of Interior, the Social Affairs Organization, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Welfare Organization, and the Police Force), developed a model for evaluating the activities of charitable organizations across the country.

Based on this model, charities were assessed and competed in three distinct categories:

(a) Service and support,

(b) Infrastructure development, and

(c) Philanthropy ecosystem enhancement.

The evaluation process was conducted based on official reports and performance documentation submitted by the participating organizations.

The organizers of this competition state their objectives as follows:

“In presenting this award, we recognize the necessity of effectively addressing these challenges and issues through the collective efforts of various sectors of society. Our goal is to identify and showcase successful models and experiences in this field.”

At the inaugural National Charity Award Festival, held on December 24, 2024, the Navid Innovation and Development Charity was honored with the National Charity Award in the category of Philanthropy Ecosystem Development.

The Charity Award Festival Fostered Greater Unity Between Governmental and Public Institutions

According to the Secretariat of the Charity Award Festival, Hojjat al-Islam Ahmad Sharafkhani, Head of the Charity Affairs Center at the Endowments and Charity Organization, stated at the closing ceremony of the first Charity Award Festival on December 24, 2024:

“Conducting scientific and specialized studies on charity organizations is essential, as philanthropy has a deep-rooted history in our country. The structures of endowment (waqf), wills, vows (nazr), and charitable donations have long existed in our society, reflecting our nation’s philanthropic civilization.”

He further emphasized:

*”It was crucial to undertake a scientific and systematic approach to assess charity institutions and identify potential challenges. Three years ago, we launched a research project that led us to the conclusion that defining clear evaluation criteria was necessary. We examined various models from different countries and ultimately selected 73 out of 200 internationally recognized indicators, narrowing them down to 11 key assessment areas. With contributions from an academic committee, these indicators were integrated into the festival’s framework.

A nationwide call was issued, and out of ۵,۰۰۰ active charitable organizations, ۱,۹۹۸ institutions participated in the festival. Those honored today can attest to the rigor and precision of the data assessment and evaluation process that determined the winners.”*
